Four hospitalized, one dead after gunshot victims in Miramar arrive at four-vehicle crash in Pembroke Pines

Two men who were shot at a gas station in Miramar arrived at the scene of a four-vehicle crash in Pembroke Pines, leading paramedics to transport five total people to the hospital Thursday night, officials say, most of them in serious condition. One of the men has died.

The chaotic scene began about 11 p.m., when three cars and a lawn maintenance truck collided at the intersection of University Drive and Pines Boulevard in Pembroke Pines, according to Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue Division Chief Jason Stepp. The force of the crash flipped the maintenance truck on its side, and two of the vehicles sustained major damage.

Fire Rescue extricated one person from one vehicle and two people from another, transporting all three to the hospital, Stepp said, two of them trauma alerts. Pembroke Pines Police then arrived to investigate.

Meanwhile, about 11:15 p.m., Miramar Police responded to a Chevron Gas Station at 3100 South University Drive, according to Sgt. Oscar Mendoza, about six minutes down the road from the crash.

A man got into an argument with one of two men inside the gas station, Mendoza said. He returned outside and was pumping gas when the two men confronted him, one of them pulling out a gun. In response, the man who was pumping gas shot both of the men and fled. Immediately afterwards, he called 911 and met with police officers.

The two men, both wounded, got into a car and drove north to the intersection of University Drive and Pines Boulevard, Mendoza said.

They told Pembroke Pines Police responding to the scene that they had been shot, according to Stepp.

Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue immediately assessed both men, Stepp said. One of them was shot once in the arm, the other shot multiple times in the leg, arm, and abdomen.

Both men were transported as trauma alerts to Memorial Regional Hospital. The man who had first pulled out the gun died, according to Mendoza. The other man, who was shot in the arm, remains in the hospital.

No charges have been filed and Miramar Police are still investigating the shooting.
