Four-hour class will run from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Watertown Police Department

The AARP Mature Driver Safety Program will be offering a fall “SMART DRIVER” class on Thursday, Oct. 12.

The four-hour class will run from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the conference room of the Watertown Police Department at 128 N. Maple.

Individuals will learn research-based safety strategies that will help meet the challenges they face daily on today's roads, minimize risk of accidents while prolonging mobility and maintaining independence. Participants will also learn how aging, medications and other health-related issues affect driving ability and ways to adjust to allow for these changes.

The course is designed especially for drivers 50 years old and older, but all ages are welcome. It's a chance for drivers to brush up on their skills in a comfortable relaxed, friendly, and informal setting. There is no formal testing.

To register, contact Nick Kranz at 886-7799 and leave a message. There is a $20 fee for AARP members and $25 fee for non-members to cover materials. Attendees in most cases are eligible for an insurance discount, but the real advantage is the improved driving skills that you will take home.
