Four injured in crash on U.S. 35 southeast of Muncie

MUNCIE, Ind. — Four people were injured, at least two of them seriously, in a Tuesday afternoon crash on U.S. 35 southeast of Muncie.

The traffic accident was reported about 3:30 p.m., at the federal highway's intersection with Delaware County Road 650-S.

According to Jeff Stanley, chief deputy with the Delaware County Sheriff's Department, a Chrysler Town & Country minivan, driven by a juvenile, was westbound on County Road 650-S when it pulled into the path of a crew-cab Ram pickup truck that was southbound on U.S. 35.

The truck struck the passenger side of the minivan, Stanley said. The minivan traveled 165 feet after the collision, while the truck traveled 55 feet and came to rest on its roof.

The van contained three juveniles from Delaware County, and two were flown by medical helicopters — one to an Indianapolis hospital and the other to a medical facility in Fort Wayne.

The third juvenile and the driver of the truck, a Mooreland man, were taken by ambulance to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.
