Four Manhattan Beach Residents Add to City's COVID-19 Count

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — After listening to comments challenging how the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health arrives at its daily numbers count of Manhattan Beach residents who have tested positive for COVID-19 last Wednesday during his "Coffee With the Mayor", Mayor Richard Montgomery told Manhattan Beach Patch today [Saturday, Nov. 28] that the county's counting method does not double count residents who test positive more than once and does not enter non Manhattan Beach residents into MB's numbers.

All that said, four Manhattan Beach residents have tested positive for the novel coronavirus just since yesterday, pushing the city's cumulative total of positive cases to 519.

During Wednesday's "Coffee" event, at least two Manhattan Beach residents questioned the validity of Los Angeles County's COVID-19 numbers, saying people, such as travelers from Los Angeles International Airport who take COVID-19 tests in Manhattan Beach would be counted in MB's numbers if they tested positive at a Manhattan Beach testing location. Montgomery confirmed today that is not true and that neither are the reports that someone who lives in MB who tests positive will be counted again should they test positive again.

Manhattan Beach, just like communities nationwide as well as in LA County, is experiencing an increasing number of people testing positive for COVID-19. From Monday, Nov. 23 through Friday, Nov. 27, 19 Manhattan Beach residents tested positive for the novel coronavirus. On Monday, Nov. 23, the city had 496 positive test cases since data began to be collected in March.
