WOOSTER, Ohio – A 4-year-old Ohio boy who fell through the ice into a pond on Sunday has died.
The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office said Jensen Hodge died Tuesday at Akron Children’s Hospital in Akron.
He was playing with his 6-year-old brother Landon at their family’s dairy farm in Sugar Creek Township – about 50 miles northeast of Cincinnati – when they walked onto an icy pond and fell through. Landon was able to keep his head above water until he was rescued by members of the East Wayne Fire Department, but Jensen was submerged.
Their grandfather Todd Farriss also attempted to save them but had to be rescued by firefighters as well. Their cousin Jae Weaver saw them fall in and immediately called 911.
Jensen was taken to Aultman Orrville Hospital then airlifted to Akron Children’s Hospital. Landon also was transported to Akron Children’s by ambulance and released on Monday. Farriss was transported to Aultman Orrville but not admitted.
A relative told The Daily Record that Hodge’s parents have requested privacy.
