Four people hit by car after argument at Knights Ferry Recreation Area. No suspects ID’d

Four people were injured Sunday evening when a fight escalated into a driver intentionally hitting people with a car in the parking lot of the Knights Ferry Recreation Area, authorities said.

The incident started around 6 p.m. when two men and two women got into an argument, said Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Erich Layton. Two other men, who were at the recreation area with the two women, also got involved.

The two men involved in the original fight got into a small white SUV and drove toward the group they’d been fighting with, hitting all four, Layton said.

Layton said that at one point, the man in the passenger seat of the SUV brandished a gun. No shots were fired and the vehicle fled the scene.

The four people hit by the car had various injuries but none were life-threatening. According to the Modesto Fire Department, two of the people were taken to hospitals for treatment.

Layton said no arrests have been made and no suspects identified. The incident is being investigated as an assault with a deadly weapon.

He said initial reports that 20 to 30 people were in a fight were false. He said there were likely a lot of people at the popular park at the time of the incident and there could have been that many bystanders.
