Emergency services rescued four people whose motorboat was in danger of going over the edge of a dam near Austin, Texas.
Austin-Travis Country EMS released aerial photos of the boat right on the edge of the Longhorn Dam. Police say the group, who were not from the area, did not realize how close they were to the dam's edge until it was too late to escape the current, which was stronger due to higher water levels after recent rains.
911 was called and emergency services dropped life vests to the group via helicopter. A police river boat was able to attach a line to the stranded vessel and tow it to safety.
"This would have been very tragic had they gone over the dam," Austin Police Department Assistant Chief Scott Perry said in a Friday news conference, as reported by CNN. "It's a very high dam and there would have been probably severe injuries if not loss of life due to that."
None of the occupants were injured, and the group declined transportation to hospital.
