Four shootings over four days: what to know about recent Lee County violence

A series of unrelated shootings took place in Lee County over four days in the past week, causing the deaths of four people and injuring at least three others. Here's what we know so far:

Seniors shot at Lehigh Acres street race

Two senior citizens were shot early Sunday and sustained critical injuries during an altercation with a car club that had blocked a Lehigh Acres intersection and gathered for a street race, Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said.

The victims were beginning a trip to Key West when they were blocked by street racers at Milwaukee Boulevard and Homestead Road about 4 a.m. According to Marceno, a mob then surrounded and began striking the victims' truck before 17-year-old Cape Coral resident Armando Cruz allegedly fired a pistol into the cabin.

The victims survived and drove away to seek medical care.

Cruz was arrested Monday and faces 11 charges including attempted murder, Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno announced during a Tuesday press conference. Deputies also arrested two others for their alleged role in the incident: Robert Moya, 19, of North Fort Myers, and Saviok Wood, 22, of Lehigh Acres, with more arrests expected.

Cruz is being held in juvenile detention and has a court hearing on April 10. Moya and Wood remain in Lee County Jail with no bond set Tuesday afternoon. They are next due in court on April 24.

On Wednesday, Marceno announced the implementation of a new pursuit policy in response to the shooting.

"For these people who think they want to come here and think they can cause havoc and take intersections over, it's not happening," Marceno said. "We immediately are using our helicopter, stop sticks, drones, barricades, all hands on deck, everything we have, to make certain that we win."

Rosado is being held without bond on a count of second degree murder and is scheduled for arraignment on April 17.

Domestic violence homicide in Fort Myers

City police responded to the Portofino Cove apartment complex around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday for a report that a woman had been shot by her boyfriend.

Officers found a woman with a gunshot wound to her chest on a second story balcony and a man who had been shot multiple times and was bleeding severely. The man died at the scene and the woman was taken to Gulf Coast Hospital for treatment.

The report released by the police department was redacted to protect the privacy of the victims, so the exact circumstances of the shooting are unclear, but a second man was involved and left the scene before police arrived.
