Why 4-star QB recruit Tanner Bailey of Gordo decommitted from Oregon football

Gordo High quarterback Tanner Bailey had been committed to Oregon football, but that changed Monday when Oregon coach Mario Cristobal took the Miami vacancy and Bailey decommitted.

"Offensive coordinator (Joe) Moorhead is gone, so is coach Cristobal, so now you better have you some plans," Gordo coach Ryan Lolley said. "Otherwise you can be left with nothing, so I think that's the correct choice.

"Does that mean he wouldn't go there? No, but they've got to make a selection on who they hire. They hire somebody that wants him, I'm sure he's still interested in that place."

Bailey, a four-star recruit and the No. 16 quarterback in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite, got a visit from former Auburn offensive coordinator Mike Bobo during an October game. He had no comment on Bobo being at the game.

Bailey's father Lance played quarterback at Auburn in the 1980s. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound recruit's grandfather, Ken, was a part of coach Paul W. "Bear" Bryant's first recruiting class at Alabama.

"Today will be interesting, the next couple days," Lolley said. "My phone's starting to ring already with different people. ... He's got enough people where he'll end up somewhere fine."

Bailey helped Gordo to the 2020 AHSAA state championship game and led the Greenwave to the another 10-win season as a senior.

Bailey has not given any indication on what schools he is now considering and whether Oregon is still in the mix, or if he might want to follow Cristobal to Miami.

"Somebody's going to get a (dang) good quarterback and he's going to get to go somewhere really good," Lolley said. "Like all of us, we've got our unknowns and you go from there."
