Fourth Bike Week death reported

A 62-year-old Jacksonville motorcyclist injured during Bike Week in Daytona Beach died on Friday at the hospital, making it the fourth death of the 10-day event, officials said on Wednesday.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Wednesday that the motorcycle crash occurred March 11 at 7 p.m. at Walter Boardman Lane and Old Dixie Highway near Ormond Beach, and the motorcyclist died 13 days later at Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, said FHP Lt. Channing Taylor.

"We discovered the driver (rider) expired on March 24 at Halifax Hospital," Taylor said.

On March 11, the Jacksonville rider was on his Harley Davidson eastbound on Walter Boardman Lane when it ran off the road, Taylor said.

The motorcycle overturned on the shoulder of the road and the rider was thrown from the machine, troopers said.

The rider was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach in critical condition and passed on Friday, Taylor said.
