Perry Mural Project - We Are Perry

4 p.m. Thursday, June 29 at 923 Warford St.

Join us tonight at 923 Warford for the dedication of Perry's new mural that celebrates the people that make Perry our home! The mural dedication starts at 4 p.m. with live music by Stranger Than Fiction to follow in Soumas Court as well as a wine tasting event by Twin Vines, grilled hot dogs and giveaways. The first 25 customers to the celebration will receive free hot dogs and water.

Picnic, Ice Cream & Soccer in Perry

5-7 p.m. Thursday, June 29 at 1800 Pattee St., Perry.

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Dallas County will be offering a Picnic, Ice Cream and Soccer event from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 29. Come join us for a picnic, ice cream and soccer on us. This is a free event and open to families. We will be serving picnic foods from 4:45-5:15 p.m. We will have youth activities including learning how to make ice cream. Learn about ISU Extension and what upcoming programs are available and free educational resources. There is a limit of 20 families. Please register with Rosa to hold your spot. Movie in the Park

8 p.m. Friday, June 30 at Granger Community Center.

Granger Parks and Recreation is excited to offer free Movies in the Park. Outdoor movies will be shown at either Centennial Park or by the soccer fields. The film is shown on a portable screen and will begin at sunset. In the event of unstable weather, the movie will be shown indoors at the Community Center. There will be some pop, candy and popcorn available for purchase. Feel free to bring a lawn chair and/or blanket to sit on. Watch for updates on the Granger Parks & Recreation page.

Van Meter Yoga in the Park

8:30 a.m. Saturday, July 1 at American Legion Shelter House, Van Meter.

The Van Meter Parks and Rec board will host Yoga in the Park at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday mornings in June and July. The group will meet at the American Legion Shelter House. Attendees should bring a towel or mat and a friend. The free classes will be held on July 1, 15, 29.

Ladies Night Out

4-7 p.m. Saturday, July 1 at Perry businesses.

We know you love Sip & Shops but can’t always make it on a Friday, so let’s take a night off and have a Ladies Night Out Saturday instead! Shop around at Perry businesses and enjoy complimentary refreshments and specials at each store. Gather your girl friends for the evening. Woodward Social Center Luncheon

11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Monday, July 3 at Woodward Social Center.

The Woodward Social Center will serve a luncheon on Monday, July 3. The menu will include turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, dressing (stuffing), tossed salad and dessert bars. A free-will offering will be taken to support the Woodward Public Library.

Waukee’s Independence Day Celebration

Celebrate our nation’s founding with the Independence Day Celebration on July 3 and 4 in Waukee. July 3 will be an all-American evening where attendees can support local veterans with delicious food by the Waukee chapter of the American Legion, enjoy yard games, participate in a pie-eating contest and watch “Top Gun: Maverick” on the huge outdoor screen. July 4 will offer a full day of family-friendly fun, from a pancake breakfast to parade to inflatables. Don’t miss the talented Des Moines Skydivers and their festive display over Centennial Park and wrap up the day with a fireworks display. Minburn Fourth of July Celebration

July 3-4 in Minburn.

Minburn’s Fourth of July festivities will kick off with free skating and live music July 3 in Meek Park. A free-will donation meal will be served by the Friends of the Minburn Public Library from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The skate shack will be open and kids will be able to skate for free at the outdoor rink. The Meet Me in Minburn concert series will feature live music from Emma Butterworth from 7-9 p.m. The festivities will continue on July 4 with a 9 a.m. parade (8:30 a.m. line-up at co-op), family games at Rogers Park, lunch and bingo at the food shelter, car show, music, pie auction and more. Minburn Pie Contest

The Minburn Fourth of July Pie Contest is back! The Minburn American Legion will be awarding cash prizes for adult and junior pie bakers in four different categories, as well as an additional $100 cash prize for the overall champion pie. Pie entries must be delivered to the Legion Hall on Baker Street in Minburn between 8 a.m. and noon on July 4 for judging and prizes will be awarded at 7 p.m. prior to the pie auction.

Perry Fine Arts will present its annual Musical Extravaganza and Ice Cream Social on Tuesday, July 4. Perry Fine Arts annual variety show has been going for 48 years. It has become a mainstay of Perry's Fourth of July festivities. Come and enjoy, in air-conditioned comfort, as Perry area performers entertain you with vocals and instrumentals. Following the program, come and socialize while having a scoop (or two) of ice cream and goodies. Perry Fine Arts concerts are free and open to all. A free-will offering will be taken and a reception will follow the concert. The building is handicapped accessible.

Grimes Home Base Iowa July 4 Fireworks Show

In partnership with the city of Grimes, a Home Base Iowa Community, looks forward to celebrating our nation's Independence Day on the evening of July 4 at the Grimes South Sports Complex at dusk (around 10 p.m.) or when it gets dark!

Free Merchant Movies

11 a.m. Wednesday, July 5 at Perry Grand 3 Theatres.

Adel Garden Party

5:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 6 at Adel Historical Museum, 1125 Main St., Adel.

A garden party will be held on Thursday, July 6 at Aubrey's Gardens and the Adel Historical Museum. The museum will be open to tour from 5:30-7:30 p.m. while garden tours will be available from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The event will also feature live music, local coffee, wine and water. Tickets are $10 and proceeds will benefit the Adel Historical Museum. Tickets can be purchased online through Eventbrite and in person at Harvey's Greenhouse and Azalea Lane Boutique.

Jamaica Library Presents Toby KID’s Friendship Adventures

6 p.m. Thursday, July 6 at Jamaica Community Center.

Jamaica Public Library will be hosting Friendship Adventures and invites you to join them on July 6 at the Jamaica Community Center. This interactive show features Master Performer Toby KID. There will be singing, magic, dancing and lots of silliness. This program is part of the Jamaica Public Library Summer 2023 reading program. This presentation will encourage children to become friends with a good book. It also encourages children to find the story and their voice in their friendship with others. No pre-registration is required and the show is free to all attendees. Friendship Adventures is a great event for families!

Memorial Golf Tournament

Sunday, July 9 at Perry Golf and Country Club.

Each year, the Perry Golf and Country Club honors the memory of a former member who had a significant impact on the club. This year, the 10th annual Memorial Golf Tournament will be played in honor of the late Louie and Doris Hensen. The tournament is open to anyone who would like to play in it on July 9. The Championship Flight will play 27 holes, while the senior division and all other flights will play 18 holes. The defending champion is Denny Bull and the defending senior champion is Randy McCaulley. To enter, call the clubhouse at (515) 465-3852.
