Fourth of July: What's open and what's closed in and around Springfield

The Fourth of July, or Independence Day, is a federal holiday.

That means banks and post offices will be closed and there will be no mail delivery on Tuesday.

Illinois government buildings

Federal buildings and courts, state of Illinois offices and courts, the Sangamon County building and courts and the Municipal Building, along with Lincoln Library and Oak Ridge Cemetery administrative offices, will be closed.

Springfield schools

Springfield School District 186 administrative offices are closed Tuesday.

The offices on the University of Illinois Springfield campus, the Lincoln Land Community College campus and Midwest Technical Institute's Springfield campus will be closed and there will be no classes held.

Springfield public transportation

Sangamon Mass Transit District and Access Sangamon buses will not be running Tuesday.

Springfield tourism

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, the Lincoln Home, the Lincoln Tomb and Lincoln's New Salem are open normal hours Tuesday. Lincoln's New Salem will have period demonstrations and a special reading of the Declaration of Independence.
