Fowlerville, Charyl Stockwell cross country runners shine in Stockbridge

Fowlerville senior Brett Marschall ran a personal record and two Charyl Stockwell runners continued closing in on a school record Saturday in the Stockbridge Cross Country Invitational.

Marschall was ninth out of 152 runners with a time of 16 minutes, 31.5 seconds. The 2021 state Division 2 qualifier ran 14.5 seconds faster than his previous best time, which was run on the same course last year.

Meanwhile, senior Raymond Rogers and junior Anthony Urbaniak of Stockwell took chunks off their personal bests. Rogers was 24th in 17:13.4 and Urbaniak was 27th in 17:24.5.

The school record of 17:03.0 was set by Jeremy Bond at the Portage Invite on Oct. 10, 2015.

Fowlerville was ninth out of 22 complete boys teams with 250 points, while Stockwell was 13th with 315. Capital Homeschool won with 40.

In the girls meet, Fowlerville was eighth out of 16 teams with 260 points. Williamston won with 73.

Freshman Delaney Richardson was 52nd in 21:51.6 and senior Avery Copeland was 65th in 22:29.5 to lead Fowlerville. Junior Savannah Ricketts was 63rd in 22:23.7, moving her to fifth on Stockwell’s all-time list. The Sentinels didn’t have a complete team.

Tennis

KLAA B tournament

Brighton finished first with 16 points, beating Canton by three. Hartland was third out of seven teams with nine points and Howell tied for fifth with two.

The Bulldogs had finalists in eight of the nine flights, winning five championships.

Pierce Pettengill won at No. 2 singles, Logan Fossum won at No. 3 singles and Tyler Adams won at No. 4 singles for Brighton. The Bulldogs’ doubles teams of Ben Anderson and Christian Fitch (No. 2) and David Biesada and Nate Reynolds (No. 4) won championships.

Soccer

Pinckney 1, Milan 1

Owen Keene scored on a penalty kick in the first half to give Pinckney (10-2-1) a 1-0 lead before Milan tied it in the second half.

Milan (10-1-3) is ranked 13th in Division 3.

Brighton 1, Hartland 1

Brighton's Hunter Haglund scored the tying goal with 13 minutes left on a pass by Connor Blood. Hartland's Dino Gjolaj scored early in the second half. Brighton is 4-5-4, while Hartland is 2-8-4.
