Emmy Award-winning sports journalist Betsy Ross will be honored with the Ohio Valley Silver Circle Award, Fox 19 reports.

Ross, who currently works as an anchor and reporter on Fox 19 and founded the Cincinnati-based marketing agency Game Day Communications, accepted her nomination for the prestigious award on Wednesday.

Ross began her Cincinnati reporting career in 1981 at WCPO, where she worked as a producer, anchor and reporter. She later moved on to newsrooms across the country, and in 1997, she was hired as an analyst and contributor for ESPN News' SportsCenter, becoming one of the station's first female anchors.

Ross won a regional Emmy Award for her work on the broadcast of the 2014 Mount St. Joseph University and Hiram College basketball game, in which Lauren Hill, a brain cancer patient, fulfilled her dream of playing in a college basketball game.

The Ohio Valley Silver Circle Award recognizes distinguished broadcast professionals in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and West Virginia who have worked in the industry for over 25 years, according to the website. A separate Gold Circle Award honors TV journalists with over 50 years of experience.

Ross will receive the award at the Ohio Valley Chapter Emmy Gala on July 30 in Columbus.
