Fox Chapel votes to remove word ‘squaw’ from borough code

Fox Chapel has voted to remove a nationally recognized slur from its borough code.

Monday night, the borough voted to change all of its codes to replace any references containing “squaw.”

The word considered to be a slur referring to Native American women.

In 2020, the names of two streets, a large trail and a park in Fox Chapel were all changed for the same reason.

Borough council’s vote was unanimous.
