Fox that chased neighbors tests positive for rabies after attacking pet

Douglas County Animal Services is warning neighbors to watch for potentially rabid animals after a fox attack.

A fox was chasing people around Mann Road and Richardson Road in the Winston area of the county on June 24, according to animal control.

The fox attacked a family pet but did not attack any people, according to a neighbor. Animal Control Officers found the fox deceased in the back yard of a home.

Douglas County Animal Services says The Georgia Department of Public Health tested the animal for rabies and the test was positive.

The pet that was attacked was vaccinated against rabies but is now in quarantine for the next 45-days.

Douglas County Animal Services is reminding people not to interfere with any wildlife if it appears healthy or sick.
