Fox News journalist Jim Angle remembered as Texas Tech Distinguished Alumnus

Jim Angle, a Texas Tech alumnus, is being remembered for a career as an award-winning journalist and founding reporter at Fox News.

Fox News confirmed his death Friday. He was 75 when he died Wednesday at his home in Arlington, Virginia.

Angle, a U.S. Army veteran who attended and graduated from Texas Tech with a bachelor of arts degree in political science in 1969, later went on to attend the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned his master of arts degree in Latin American Studies, according to Fox.

Curt Langford, president and CEO of the Texas Tech Alumni Association, shared a message praising Angle for his contributions to the university and representing Tech on a national stage.

"The Texas Tech Alumni Association was saddened to learn of Jim Angle's passing," Langford wrote. "He was an accomplished journalist and widely known for his work as a White House correspondent covering past presidents and administrations. He was a well-respected newsman and a Distinguished Alumnus who represented Texas Tech proudly. He was one of us."

In 2014, Texas Tech honored Angle as a Distinguished Alumnus, according to Lubbock Avalanche-Journal archives. He was also Texas Tech's 2012 summer commencement speaker.

Before joining Fox News, Angle worked at CNN covering Bob Dole’s campaign. He also anchored NPR’s “Marketplace” from 1990-1993. He also served as NPR’s White House correspondent covering the Ronald Regan and George H.W. Bush administrations.

Angle joined Fox News during its inaugural year in 1996 as a senior White House correspondent.

During his time at Fox, he was a substitute anchor for the “Special Report with Brit Hume” while also making regular appearances on the program, according to the media network.

He covered the 1996 reelection of President Bill Clinton as well as the 1999 impeachment trial. Angle also covered the Florida vote recount in 2000.

Angle also has worked for ABC News covering economic policy, according to Fox News, where he contributed to “World News Tonight”, “Nightline” and “Good Morning America.”

He was a recipient of the White House Correspondents' Association Merriman Smith Memorial Award for outstanding presidential news coverage for broadcast journalism in 2001 and 2003. He received the "Excellence in Financial Journalism Award" for his reporting on economic issues on "Nightline" in 1994 and 1995.
