Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx says people shouldn't conflate legitimate protest with the vandals who took to Chicago streets overnight and stole items from stores in the city's main shopping district. (Aug. 10)
KIM FOXX: We cannot conflate peaceful protesters with what we saw last night. Last night was not an extension of a peaceful protest. Last night was not an extension of righteous anger. Last night was a blatant display of criminal behavior. What drove that behavior, how we got there are questions that we can continue to answer. But it is not the people for whom we've chosen not to use our resources to prosecute. The mothers who are mourning the losses of their children, the people who are afraid to go out into the stores and into the streets, the people who are unable to come downtown today to go to work are looking for answers, not blame.
