With Florida ranked second nationally in electric vehicle ownership, an itinerary for electric vehicle travel is sorely needed. Well, consider that need filled — partially.

Via a recent press release, Florida Power & Light Company unveiled “FPL’s EV Expressway”, which offers electric vehicle drivers a roadmap for statewide travel. The tool provides a map of public charging stations that are part of FPL’s EVolution charging network, which consists of approximately 200 stations (and 1,000 ports) and counting.

Per the release, EVolution charging stations are in a variety of settings, including near highway exits, along major thoroughfares and near amenities that drivers can use while their vehicle is charging.

“With prices at the pump continuing to rise, driving electric is more attractive than ever,” said Crystal Stiles, FPL’s executive director of development, distributed technologies and mobility, in the release. “FPL’s EV Expressway makes it simple for drivers to map out their travel plans with peace of mind, so they can reach their destinations and always have convenient charging stations along the way.”

Plus, popular destinations along the way are visible via the EV Expressway. Destinations, all of which are in the vicinity of charging stations on the map, include historic downtown Venice, Legacy Hotel at IMG Academy in Bradenton and the MOTE Marine & Aquarium in Sarasota.

Florida is second, behind only California, in electric vehicle registrations with 58,169, accounting for 5.7% of the total registrations nationally. Last year, 3% of all cars sold in Florida were electric.

According to the release, prospective travelers can plan their trips by going to FPL.com/EV, or download the FPL EVolution app, which shows the closest charging stations, nearby amenities and port availability.
