Framingham Public Schools announces early releases due to heat. What parents need to know

FRAMINGHAM — Framingham Public Schools announced on Wednesday that students will be released early on Thursday and that all afternoon and evening activities that day are canceled due to a heat advisory.

According to an email from Framingham Public Schools, Thursday's school schedule is as follows:

  • Framingham High School: 7:25-10:45 a.m.

  • Framingham High School (Thayer Campus): 8:30-10:50 a.m.

  • Cameron Middle School: 8:10-11:40 a.m.

  • Fuller Middle School: 8:10-11:40 a.m.

  • Walsh Middle School: 8:10-11:40 a.m.

  • Barbieri Elementary School: 9:05 a.m. to 12:55 p.m.

  • Brophy Elementary School: 9:05 a.m. to 12:55 p.m.

  • Dunning Elementary School: 9:15 a.m. to 1:05 p.m.

  • Harmony Grove Elementary School: 9:05 a.m. to 12:55 p.m.

  • Hemenway Elementary School: 9:15 a.m. to 1:05 p.m.

  • King Elementary School: 9:05 a.m. to 12:55 p.m.

  • McCarthy Elementary School: 8:15 a.m. to 12:05 p.m.

  • Potter Road Elementary School 9:05 a.m. to 12:55 p.m.

  • Stapleton Elementary School: 9:05 a.m. to 12:55 p.m.

  • BLOCKS (FHS): 9:15 a.m. to noon (early dismissal)

  • BLOCKS (Juniper Hill full day and half day morning session): 8:15-10:55 a.m.(a.m. session and all bus pick-up); 8:15-11:15 a.m. (full day, car pick-up)

  • BLOCKS afternoon session: Canceled

Lunch will not be served at Framingham High School, FHS Thayer Campus, Cameron Middle School, Fuller Middle School or Walsh Middle School.

In addition, afternoon and evening activities, including after-school programs and clubs, athletics, fine and performing arts, late buses and BLOCKS extended day are canceled.

"We understand that early dismissals can be hard for working caregivers," Framingham Public Schools spokesperson Rochelle Santos wrote in the email. "While some of our school learning environments are equipped with air conditioning, some are still works in progress. When making a decision such as this, numerous factors are taken into consideration."

"Framingham Public Schools is committed to making sure all students and staff are in a safe and healthy environment," Santos continued. "We will continue to closely monitor the weather and the temperature inside our classrooms each day because we know that no two days are ever exactly the same."

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for central and eastern Massachusetts due to hot temperatures and high humidity, which could cause heat illnesses to occur. The NWS reports heat index values up to 98 degrees Fahrenheit.
