The Ram is about to become a Seahawk.

After being on the dance card of several NFL teams, Joshua Onujiogu, Framingham State University’s record-breaking and two-time conference Defensive Player of the Year, has signed with the Seattle Seahawks.

“I’ve been waiting my whole life for this,” said the 6-foot-3, 250-pound Onujiogu, who was not taken in the NFL draft.

He had an official visit with the Seahawks on April 18. “They made me feel at home,” said Onujiogu. “It was a great visit.” The Seahawks had seen film of him and decided to sign the 24-year-old who never missed a college game. He flew back to Seattle Thursday.

“The Seahawks felt Seattle was the right place for him,” said his agent, Joe Linta.

Onujiogo allowed that tracking the entire NFL Draft was “a nerve-wracking experience. I knew teams were interesting in me, but I didn’t know which ones.”

It’s possible Onujiogu, who also worked out for the Patriots, will land on Seattle’s practice squad. “He has a high ceiling,” said Linta. “The sky’s the limit for him.”

A Cinderella story perhaps? Framingham State Rams head coach Tom Kelley is still scratching his head over the notion that Onujiogu got zero college look-sees.

Anyway, Onujiogu’s got a contract and a chance. Who can say where it’ll take him. But he’s ready as ever to start the job.
