Editor's note: Charges in this case were dismissed after continuance without a finding on Sept. 4, 2012 in Framingham District Court.

A Framingham teen was booked as "Jane Doe," after she was arrested Sunday and accused of punching a woman in the face last week after stealing her purse at the AMC Theater, police said. The girl refused to identify herself or say how old she was for several hours after her 8:33 p.m. arrest at the theater. She finally identified herself as Nadia Pettit, 17, of 650 Cochituate Road, police spokesman Lt. Ron Brandolini said.On Aug. 22, police went to the theater for a report of a theft. A woman told police she was watching a movie when she saw someone reach from the row behind her and take her purse, the lieutenant said."The woman asked her what she was doing," said Brandolini. "She (Pettit) said she dropped her earring in the woman's purse and was just looking for it."Pettit then got up and began running from the theater with the purse. The woman tried to stop her, but Pettit turned and punched her in the face, Brandolini said. As she ran, one of Pettit's sneakers fell off, the lieutenant said.On Sunday, a theater employee called police and said it appeared the person who committed the theft had returned."We reviewed the security video, and it appeared to be the same person," Brandolini said.Police pulled Pettit out of a theater and began questioning her. Even after being shown the video, she denied being involved in the theft. She later admitted she lost a sneaker at the theater, the lieutenant said.Police charged Pettit with larceny from a person, assault and battery and intimidation of a witness.Pettit pleaded not guilty at her Framingham District Court arraignment today. She was released without bail and is due back in court on Sept. 19 for a pretrial conference.(Norman Miller can be reached at 508-626-3823 or nmiller@wickedlocal.com.
