France to Amazon: no you can't have state support

France has told Amazon it can’t tap state support for partial unemployment.

The e-commerce giant has shut its six warehouses in the country since mid-April.

That after a court ruled the company could only deliver a limited list of essential goods during the virus crisis.

On the list are IT products, health items and food and pet food.

Deliver anything else, and Amazon could face fines of up to 100,000 euros per delivery.

The risk compelled it to shut the facilities, and now Paris says it can’t have any aid either.

The legal standoff was sparked by complaints from a union that Amazon wasn’t doing enough to protect workers.

Unions have brushed off the firm's arguments, saying it is just playing hardball in a bid to impede proper negotiations.

The Amazon warehouses will remain shut until at least Tuesday (May 5).

Managers are expected to give an update on the situation soon.
