France is to transfer SCALP-EG long-range missiles to Ukraine, the French version of the UK’s Storm Shadow cruise missile, Le Monde reported on July 11.

At the NATO summit in Vilnius on July 11, French President Emmanuel Macron stated that Paris would be increasing the supply of weapons and equipment to Ukraine.

“We have decided to deliver new missiles capable of (carrying out) deep strikes to Ukraine,” said Macron, while emphasizing the importance of maintaining clarity and consistency in France's doctrine.

However, he did not provide specific details regarding the exact type of missile.

Le Monde previously reported on the possibility of France considering the provision of SCALP-EG missiles in May.

SCALP-EG missiles are equivalent to the Storm Shadow missiles that have already been supplied to Ukraine by the United Kingdom. Manufactured by MBDA, the weapon is a Franco-British air-to-ground cruise missile with a warhead weighing 450 kilograms. It possesses a range of over 250 kilometers, enabling it to strike targets at a significant distance.

Ukraine says it has already effectively utilized the Storm Shadow missiles, with Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov describing them as one hundred percent effective.

These missiles were used to target the Chonhar Bridge, which connects the Russian-occupied areas of Kherson Oblast and Crimea, thereby impeding supply routes for Russian invasion forces.
