Frank Lampard Admits Wife Christine Bleakley Found It “Difficult” Being A Stepmum To His Girls

They have posed for plenty of smiley photographs as a new family since their wedding at Christmas.

But former Chelsea star Frank Lampard has admitted new wife Christine Bleakley initially struggled being a stepmother to his daughters.

Frank, now playing for New York City FC, has two children – Isla, eight, and Luna, 10 – with ex-fiancée Elen Rivas, 40.

But the footballer says his kids now “love” Christine.

In his first interview since getting hitched Frank, 37, told ITV’s This Morning: “It’s been a long game and you develop it slowly and fair play to all of them.

“I’m the bystander in that situation – but the girls love Christine and vice versa.”

When asked how married life was treating him, Frank said: “Very good, very good – we are both loving it. It was a fantastic day… Christine did look amazing and it went as well as we could have imagined actually.

“All the stress of organising, she did 80 per cent of at least!”

Speaking about their honeymoon with his daughters in Dubai, Frank added: “That was pre-arranged and fair play to Christine – we had a few moments of honeymoon time on that trip – but it was a family kind of one. We had a great time.”

In an interview last year, Christine spoke about her relationship as a stepmother and said she wanted to be a “little mate” to Frank’s daughter instead of being thought of as a new mum.

It hasn’t gone totally smoothly for the Lampards where their family are concerned as Frank’s ex Elen accused him of trying to stop their kids talking to her over Christmas.

Elen ended her seven-year relationship with Frank in November 2008 and moved into a £2.8million house provided for them by the footballer.
