Frank Ocean has surprised his fans with yet another artistic venture: a vibrant photography book entitled Mutations.

The 48-page book is on sale for $75 (£60) and features “a retrospective of artwork from October 19 to December 22, 2022” including photographs snapped by Ocean himself. It is on sale on the artist’s luxury label Homer’s website.

The Californian had commercially launched the brand in August 2021 with a collection that showcased high-end jewellery pieces sporting lab-grown diamonds that were handmade in Italy. More recently, the brand released a diamond-encrusted gold ring for men’s genitals that was on sale for $25,570 (£20,420).

The brand’s flagship store is based in New York’s long-established Jewellers’ Exchange district on the street of the Bowery in Lower Manhattan. The store was designed by Ocean and the New York-based architects ANY.

Aside from its highly priced products, the brand tries to offer more affordable trinkets and items, such as the Mutations photography book.

This isn’t Frank Ocean’s first photography book. On August 20, 2016, he released a 360-page magazine named Boys Don’t Cry alongside his album Blonde. Later, the British magazine Print had published the work of the rapper. And, on May 1, 2017, Ocean had attended the annual Met Gala as a special photographer for Vogue. Plus, some of Ocean’s photography is used in Homer’s catalogues showcasing its products.

It has been a while since Ocean released new music and his Coachella performance in January 2023 had left many disappointed after he showed up an hour late and had to end his show early. Plus, professional photographers weren’t allowed in the audience and fans weren’t given the chance to get their hands on any merch.

He later dropped out of his second headline performance due to a leg injury, sharing that he had two fractures and has sprained his left leg.

He has been quiet on the social media front in recent times, with his Instagram having zero posts despite having a following of 3.9 million people.
