Frank Ragnow: ‘It means the world’ to be able to give back to his family with his new contract extension

An emotional Frank Ragnow stepped in front of the camera for a virtual press conference on Friday morning. The Lions center received a massive new contract extension on Thursday, making him the highest-paid player at his position in the NFL.

The rich new money clearly hasn’t gone to his head.

When asked what he was going to do to celebrate his new contract, Ragnow told reporters, “I’m going up to the UP (Michigan’s upper peninsula) to try and smash my personal best smallmouth (bass fishing).”

He later added the record is 5.33 pounds.

That came after several reflective, tearful moments with Ragnow talking about his late father. The proud family man choked up several times when referring to his dad and his immediate family, showing sincere gratitude and emotion for all the years of support.

“My dad and my mom are just my people, you know, and I’m very grateful. My dad’s not here, but I’m very excited to take care of my mom, because I had an amazing childhood,” Ragnow said. “To be able to give back to my mom and my family, it means the world.”
