FRANKFORT, Ind. — Frankfort firefighters extinguished a fire late Tuesday in the press box at the Frankfort High School football field, according to a Facebook post by the Frankfort Police Department.

The police department's post included a photo of the fire and indicated the flames were almost extinguished. The fire is under investigation, the post stated.

The fire destroyed the press box, and its cause remained under investigation Tuesday and Wednesday, Frankfort Fire Chief Matt Stidham said.

The Frankfort Fire Department posted an update on its Facebook page indicating a passerby saw the fire and called it in about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Arriving firefighters found the press box fully engulfed and began a defensive fight against the blaze, Stidham said in the news release.

On Wednesday afternoon, Stidham said investigators continued to sift through the ashes looking for the cause, Stidham said.

The press box did have electricity, but they do not know if that factored into the fire, Stidham said.

Fire officials planned to work with the school district and hold the scene until school officials decide if their insurance company wanted to investigate the fire.

No one was injured in the fire, Stidham said.
