Franklin County Republicans big winners in most contested races

With the unofficial results tabulated, it was the Republicans' night in the various elections in Franklin County on Tuesday night.

The Franklin County Board of Elections stated there were 29,806 ballots cast out of 98,717 registered voters. That's a turnout of just over 30%.

The results were posted to the county elections board's website by 9:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Who won the race for Franklin County coroner?

Republican Jordan Conner will carry on the family tradition of being coroner in Franklin County.

Conner, son of retiring coroner Jeff Conner, beat Democratic challenger Patrick Creighton 20,825 to 8,363.

In the race for prothonotary, Republican Timothy S. Sponseller will keep his job for another four-year term.

Sponseller beat Democratic challenger Linda L. Raimo 20,562 to 8,579.

Voters chose Joy Heinbaugh, a Republican, to carry on as the county's register & recorder.

Heinbaugh was appointed to fill the term of Linda Miller, who retired more than a year ago. She beat challenger John J. Patterson 20,982 to 8,230.

Chambersburg Second Ward

Republican John Huber, an incumbent, defeated Democratic challenger Susan Shuff to continue representing the Second Ward. Huber beat Shuff 481 to 376.

Chambersburg Third Ward

In the Third Ward, Democrat Chadwick Hare defeated Republican Bill Fosnot to replace Kathy Leedy, who did not run for re-election. Hare beat Fosnot 318 to 288.

Chambersburg Fourth Ward

In the Fourth Ward, Republican David Beltz defeated Democrat Jennifer Davis to fill the seat held by Sharon Bigler, who did not seek re-election. Beltz beat Davis 178 to 168.

Chambersburg Fifth Ward

In the Fifth Ward, incumbent Bill Everly Jr., a Republican, defeated Democratic challenger Melissa Mattson 503 to 322.

What were the results of the Chambersburg Area School District elections?

There were five seats up for election this year on the Chambersburg Area school board, three of which were contested in the general election. Candidates were able to cross file on both the Republican and Democratic ballots in the primary, so their registered party might not match the ticket on which they ran in the general election.

CASD Region 2

In Region 2, Carl McKee, 74, who is currently the appointed director for Region 8, ran on the Republican ticket and defeated district parent Nicole Buhrman, 37, who ran on the Democratic ticket. McKee won 1,141 to 530

CASD Region 5

In Region 5, Stephanie Harbaugh, a 40-year-old business owner, ran on the Republican ticket and defeated Michael Boryan, a 67-year-old retired educator, who ran on the Democratic ticket. Harbaugh beat Boryan 1,272 to 1,043.

CASD Region 7

In Region 7, Mike Hayduk, 72, who ran on the Democratic ticket, narrowly defeated Lorile Greenblatt, 61, who ran on the Republican ticket. Hayduk won 557 to 527.

What were the results of the Greencastle Borough Council election?

There were four people seeking three available four-year seats on Greencastle Borough Council in Tuesday's election. Incumbent Jeremy Layman, who ran on the Democratic ticket, came up short with 333 votes

Incumbent Republican Joel Amsley received 575 votes. Challenger Republican Larry J. Faight garnered 483 votes. Incumbent Democrat Scott P. Reagan received 355 votes.

There was also a two-year seat on the ballot, but no one had filed to run for the job. There were 87 write-in votes, according to the unofficial elections board results.

There was only one contested race for a Waynesboro Borough Council seat on Tuesday.

In Ward 1, incumbent Republican Mike Cermak defeated Democratic challenger Sarah Provard. Cermak won 263 to 191.

Washington Township region

Incumbent Linda F. Zimmerman and challenger Clint Pentz, both running on the Republican ticket, took the two seats up for grabs against incumbent Karen Fitzgerald Herald, who ran on the Democratic ticket. Zimmerman received 1,375 votes and Pentz received 1,791. Herald received 1,096.

What were the results of the Tuscarora School District elections?

In the race for Tuscarora school board, six people were seeking five available seats. Democrat Elissa T. Nyer came up on the short end, garnering 785.

Incumbent Brandy J. Linn, who ran on the Republican ticket, had the most votes with 2,243. Jim Taylor, who also ran on the Republican ticket, received 2,142 votes. Matthew Gordon, who also ran on the Republican ticket, received 2,132.

Incumbent Donnie Piper, who ran on both the Republican and Democratic tickets, received 1,676 votes. Incumbent Clifford A. Smith Jr., who also ran on both tickets, received 1,507.

Who won the race for Guilford Township supervisor?

Republican incumbent Michael R. Ferguson defeated Democratic challenger Zig Herzog in the election for Guilford Township supervisor. Ferguson won 2,521 to 1,124.
