Franklin Elections: Residents angry after campaign signs left at City Hall for photo ops

Franklin residents are in an uproar after political signs for controversial mayoral candidate Gabrielle Hanson and alderman candidates Patrick George and Gary Moore appeared in front of city hall, the police department and public square, according to police.

Authorities said they began receiving calls from residents reporting the signs shortly after they appeared Wednesday in front of city hall and along public square.

"It appears someone placed signs in front of police headquarters, City Hall and on other city property for a photo opportunity, then removed the signs and posted the photos on various social media channels. Political signs are not allowed on City property. The Franklin City government serves all the community and does not endorse any political candidates," according to a statement from the City of Franklin, sent to The Tennessean via email Thursday.

George said he was not aware of the incident.

Requests seeking comment from Hanson and Moore were not returned Thursday.

The city confirmed that signs also appeared on or near businesses, including the Frothy Monkey, 125 5th Ave. S. in Franklin, according to a city spokesperson.

Controversy has followed Hanson almost from the start of her campaign. She's made unfounded claims regarding the motive in the Nashville Covenant School shooting, been the subject of numerous ethics complaints after sending an email to Nashville International Airport criticizing donations they made in support of a Juneteenth celebration and declined to denounce Nazis during an Oct. 10 board meeting.
