PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Imani Warren, Milwaukee King

For the first time this season, we have a two-time winner. It wasn't an easy decision to make.

Germantown's KK Arnold had a 27-point, 14-rebound, 14-assist triple-double. Past winner Beautiful Waheed had a 28-point, 20-rebound, nine-steal performance for Milwaukee Academy of Science. West Allis Central's Nevaeh Johnson had 35 points and 11 rebounds with 7 three-pointers in a win. Racine Park's Grace Betker had 45 of her team's 71 total points in a game.

You pick a winner from that and more. It's not easy.

Milwaukee King's Imani Warren wins the player of the week award for the second time this season in a week where stellar performances were aplenty. The advantage that Warren had over other candidates this past week was a trio of games and the senior guard was electric in a 3-0 week for the Generals.

Warren averaged 32.7 points, eight rebounds, 4.3 assists, 7.7 steals and 1.7 blocks to help the Generals stay unbeaten in the Milwaukee City Gold championship race and extend their current winning streak to five games after a 77-60 victory over previously conference unbeaten Milwaukee Reagan on Friday night.

Warren has had seven 30-point performances, including a 49-point outing in an 83-81 loss to Green Bay Preble on Dec. 16. In 14 games, Warren has had five or more steals 10 times.

TEAM OF THE WEEK

Dominican

I was stunned when I came to the realization of having two two-time winners in our awards section this week, but as Warren's honor was, Dominican being named the team of the week in the area is certainly deserved.

Just like when the Knights won the honor back on Dec. 12, they had a dominant three-game week. Dominican won by an average of 37.3 points over Kenosha St. Joseph, Brown Deer and Racine St. Catherine's to extend its winning streak to 12. The Knights haven't lost since Nov. 25 in large part due to one of the area's most ferocious defenses.

In 14 games, the Knights have allowed 40 or more points just three times and they've won two of those games by a combined 49 points.

The best part for the Knights is that it's not just Keona McGee carrying the offensive load. Alicia Burgos Schroeder outscored Kenosha St. Joseph by herself (19-18) Tuesday. Brooklyn Love led all scorers with 25 points against Brown Deer in a game in which McGee had 15 points and 12 assists. McGee scored 19 points on 18 shots Friday, but three other Knights all reached double figures and held Racine St. Catherine's to 13-of-39 shooting with 20 total turnovers.

COMING UP

New Berlin West at Union Grove, 7 p.m. Tuesday: New Berlin West fell out of this week's rankings, but the Vikings have a massive opportunity to rejoin next week's if they can beat the Broncos on the road. Union Grove hasn't lost since Nov. 22 and has been stampeding its way through Southern Lakes Conference play.

Germantown at Kettle Moraine Lutheran, 7:15 p.m. Tuesday: Germantown has lost to three of the best teams in the state. Two of them are in the top three of our rankings. Only one of those losses have come in the last nine games. Arnold, a UConn commit, facing off with one of the better scorers in the area in Mackenzie Luehring could make this a fun game.

The Prairie School at Dominican, 7 p.m. Thursday: The team of the week could be playing the game of the week. Dominican (8-0) will host The Prairie School (6-1) in a Metro Classic matchup that could decide the fate of the conference title. Since Dec. 7, these two teams have combined to go 19-0.

Milwaukee King at Milwaukee Golda Meir, 7 p.m. Friday: If anybody's going to catch Warren and the Generals (8-6, 7-0 City Gold) in the conference title race, Golda Meir (5-8, 5-2) is going to have to pull one off Friday. King picked up a huge victory over previously conference unbeaten Reagan to get some breathing room.
