Guardians designated hitter Franmil Reyes has had a nightmare beginning to the 2022 season, Now, he'll be sidelined for at least 10 days.

On Thursday, Reyes was placed on the 10-day injured list with right hamstring tightness. The IL stint is retroactive to May 25.

Reyes is hitting .195 with a .533 OPS, three home runs, two doubles and 12 RBI. He has struck out 57 times in 35 games. Reyes recently received some advice from two Hall-of-Famers, David Ortiz (who will be inducted this summer) and Vladimir Guerrero Sr.

Reyes is a needed part of the heart of the Guardians lineup, as he opened the season hitting behind Jose Ramirez. He has since been moved down the order with Josh Naylor and Owen Miller opening the season on high notes.

Outside of two hot stretches that lasted a few days, Reyes hasn't looked like the same hitter since coming to Cleveland in the three-team Trevor Bauer trade in 2019.

The Guardians also selected the contract of outfielder Oscar Gonzalez, recalled outfielder Richie Palacios and left-handed pitcher Konnor Pilkington and designated Yu Chang for assignment.

Pilkington took the roster spot previously occupied by Aaron Civale, who was placed on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday. Due to a number of rainouts and Civale's injury, the Guardians have needed to shuffle their rotation a bit and find some extra starters.

Gonzalez, 24, has slashed .282/.308/.506 in Triple-A Columbus this season, including eight home runs, eight doubles, two triples, 33 RBIs and 21 runs scored. With Reyes on the injured list, the Guardians will have some added depth in the outfield and flexibility with the DH spot.

Palacios, the No. 17-ranked prospect according to MLBPipeline.com, went 10-for-37 with a double, two RBI and a stolen base in his first stint in the majors

Yu Chang was placed on the COVID IL in mid-April and was then sent to the minors for a rehab assignment. He went 0-for-10 before being sidelined and has a career .208 average and .637 OPS.

Chang found himself behind Amed Rosario, Andres Gimenez, Owen Miller and Ernie Clement in the Guardians infield. Chang would have had an even tougher time finding at-bats considering the likes of Gabriel Arias, Tyler Freeman and others who are in the minor leagues and knocking on the door to the majors.
