FREDERICKSBURG, VA — The City of Fredericksburg reported its first confirmed case of the new coronavirus, or COVID-19, on Wednesday, bringing the total number of cases in the Rappahannock Area Health District to 13. Elsewhere in the area, there are nine cases reported in Stafford County and three in Spotsylvania County.
Fredericksburg Fire Chief Mike Jones said Wednesday in a video statement that the health district notified the city earlier in the day that a city resident had tested positive. Jones said residents should expect the region's positive coronavirus cases to increase as more testing is done.
Also on Wednesday, the Virginia Department of Health confirmed 391 positive cases of the coronavirus across the state. That reflects an increase of nearly 100 from the prior day.

Another death was reported by the Pittsylvania/Danville Health District in southern Virginia, and two more deaths were reported in the Peninsula Health District. Seven of the state's 12 deaths related to the COVID-19 virus have been reported in the Peninsula Health District.
As the coronavirus crisis increases concerns and anxiety among residents in the community, Jones recommended that residents contact the Rappahannock Area Community Services Board if they need assistance. The organization has an emergency therapist available 24 hours a day. Residents should call the organization's emergency line at 540-373-6876 if they need help.
