Free admission to Chicago museums, attractions available for Freeport area families

FREEPORT — Freeport area families can now sign up for a turn with a pass granting them free access to some of the Chicago area's world renown museums and zoos.

Residents of the 89th Illinois House district have until Dec. 31 to reserve the card, which provides free general admission for up to four people to any of the following 16 institutions:

The Field Museum, Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center, John G. Shedd Aquarium, Lincoln Park Zoo, Museum of Contemporary Art, Museum of Mexican Art, Museum of Science and Industry and National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture, Adler Planetarium, The Art Institute of Chicago, Brookfield Zoo/CZS, Chicago Academy of Sciences, Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, Chicago Botanic Garden, Chicago Children's Museum, Chicago History Museum, DuSable Museum of African American History.

The Constituent Education Resource card — available on a first-come, first-served basis — is for anyone living in the 89th district, which is represented by State Rep. Andrew Chesney, R-Freeport.

Who is eligible? Anyone living in the 89th district. The district covers all or part of Boone, Carroll, DeKalb, Jo Daviess, Ogle, Stephenson, and Winnebago counties.

How do area residents get the card? First, they need to reserve it for the dates they want to go. Then, they need to pick it up at Chesney's district office, 50 W. Douglas St. in Freeport, the day before their trip and return it the day after so the next family can use it.

How do I make a reservation? Call 815-232-0774 or submit an online request at RepChesney.com/Museum.

How many cards does each legislator receive? Each Illinois legislator receives one card that can be used for one year.

Are there certain days of the week or times when the card can be used? It can be used on any day the museum or zoo is open to the public.
