Get free admission on MLK Day 2023 at Arizona state and national parks. Here's how

An extra day in the weekend means an extra day to explore the outdoors in your favorite park. And on Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 2023, you won't have to pay an admission fee to do so.

National and state parks in Arizona will be free to enter on Monday, Jan. 16. Fees still apply for camping and other activities.

MLK Day is one of the five free-entry days at national parks in 2023. Any National Park Service site that charges an entrance fee will be free that day.

In Arizona, these include Grand Canyon, Saguaro and Petrified Forest national parks, as well as national monuments like Sunset Crater Volcano in Flagstaff and Montezuma Castle in Camp Verde.

Arizona state parks will be free to enter on that MLK Day as well, but only for Arizona residents. You must show an Arizona ID, according to Arizona State Parks and Trails.

Parks within 100 miles of metro Phoenix include Lost Dutchman State Park in Apache Junction, McFarland State Historic Park in Florence, Oracle State Park in Oracle, Picacho Peak State Park in Eloy and Tonto Natural Bridge State Park near Payson.
