Free assistance with income tax returns available by appointment

MUNCIE — Beginning Feb. 1, AARP will provide free assistance with income tax returns again this year.

Because of COVID-19 restrictions, people using this service are required to make an appointment by calling 765-283-9680 and leaving their name and phone number. A client facilitator will call back, likely within 24 hours, to set up an appointment.

Locations this year will be:

  • Tuesday: Eden Church, 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.

  • Wednesday: Maring-Hunt Library 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

  • Thursday: Muncie Delaware Senior Center noon -4 p.m.

  • Friday: Muncie Delaware Senior Center 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

  • Saturday: Ross Community Center 10 a.m.-2 p.m..

Addresses or directions to those sites will be available when making an appointment.

The IRS and AARP ask that clients not arrive more than 10 minutes before appointment time to maintain social distancing.

Because of the current COVID-19 status in the area, assistance will be provided by a drop-off method. A client arriving for their appointment will be asked to fill out the usual intake sheet, and will then have an interview with a volunteer who will inventory the client's documents and have them sign that they are leaving them for the service to do tax preparation. Another appointment will be made (hopefully the same day) when the client can return to the same location to pick up final print outs and sign for electronic submission to the IRS. Clients must leave the site between appointments.

Any questions will be answered by the client facilitator before making an appointment.
