Free backpacks and school supplies to be handed out in North Texas starting this weekend

The first day of school is just a couple weeks away for North Texas students, sending many parents on the hunt for supplies.

Fort Worth ISD kicks off the school year on Aug. 14, while Arlington ISD starts on Aug. 16. Several North Texas school districts start around the same time.

Back-to-school events start as early as this weekend. Here are a few to keep in mind:

Fort Worth ISD immunization clinic

Fort Worth ISD is partnering with Immunization Collaboration of Tarrant County to host shot clinics for uninsured families.

Immunizations cost $8 per vaccine for any child up to 18 years of age. Only cash, check, medicaid and children’s health insurance program will be accepted.

  • When: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday until Aug. 12

  • Where: Diamond Hill-Jarvis High School- 1411 Maydell St., Fort Worth

  • Cost: $8 per vaccination

Fort Worth teacher supply event

The Fort Worth Public Library is hosting a “fill the bag” event for teachers.

Teachers of all grade levels are welcome to fill a bag full of supplies for free. Teachers will need to have their school IDs ready upon entry.

  • When: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

  • Where: 500 W. 3rd St., Fort Worth

  • Cost: Free

Arlington ISD back-to-school kickoff

Arlington ISD is hosting a backpack giveaway where students can take home a bag filled with school supplies.

The backpack giveaway is at AT&T Stadium and requires tickets. The tickets are free, but parents need to register online for entry into the event to pickup a backpack.

  • When: 8 a.m. to noon Saturday

  • Where: 705 N Collins St., Arlington

  • Cost: Free

Mansfield ISD back-to-school bash

Mansfield ISD is hosting its annual back-to-school bash this Saturday at the Dr. Jim Vaszauskas Center for the Performing Arts.

The district will be giving out over 5,000 backpacks full of school supplies and 1,500 pairs of shoes. No registration is required for the event, but parents should have their children’s student IDs handy for check-in on arrival.

  • When: 7:30 a.m.- noon Saturday

  • Where: 1110 W. Debbie Lane, Mansfield

  • Cost: Free

Grand Prairie back-to-school bash

Grand Prairie is hosting a back-to-school celebration with plenty of fun for the whole family.

An outdoor bubble truck, crafts, face painting and STEM activities will be available at Saturday’s event.

  • When: 10 a.m. to noon Saturday

  • Where: 901 Conover Dr., Grand Prairie

  • Cost: Free
