Get a free beignet when PJ's Coffee opens new shop in Alexandria next week

After 15 years away, PJ’s Coffee of New Orleans is returning to Alexandria.

The new franchise will offer one free beignet per customer while supplies last on opening day, Feb. 2. A free upsize will be available during opening week only. First responders and military, health and law-enforcement personnel will get a 10% discount the first week.

The store will be open from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily. It will have both indoor and patio seating and free Wi-Fi.

“When we moved to Alexandria about four-and-a-half years ago, I couldn’t believe that there was no PJ’s at that time, and we wanted to bring it to our town,” said Smanvi Gudur, who along with her husband, Prathaprju Poloju, are opening the franchise.

PJ's Coffee of New Orleans will open Feb. 2 at the corner of Heyman Lane and Coliseum Blvd.

The couple used to live in New Orleans, where they heard of the company and fell in love with it.

“We love the company. We love its culture. We love that it’s small-batch-roasted. PJ’s is very focused on building the community relationships,” Smanvi said.

They chose to open the new franchise on Coliseum Boulevard because Gudur said they thought it would be more accessible to travelers on La. 28. Plus, the store’s location is close to neighborhoods and schools.

In 2001, PJ’s Coffee & Tea opened a store on the Jackson Street Extension. It closed in 2007.

Customers can start using the PJ's mobile app to place orders once the store opens, Gudur said. As soon as they place their orders, they can come pick them up in the store or by using the drive-thru. The coffee shop plans to roll out delivery service in the future.
