Free clinic in Concord to undergo major renovations

The Community Free Clinic in Concord is receiving a facelift.

Nurse, volunteer, and retired firefighter James Gerber is spearheading the effort to renovate the facility, which provides ‘free’ services for low-income families who don’t have insurance.

The clinic has already secured an $80,000 grant from Lowes, but Gerber says he’s working to raise more.

“I said rather than just paint this place. Let’s do everything! So addition to being a nurse, I flip houses on the side. So I have a construction crew and I thought we could really do some good work here,” Gerber said.

Gerber said the goal is to raise $100,000 more and has set up a website for donations to enlist the help of 100 firefighters to complete the renovations next weekend.

“We’re really trying to make this place a more comfortable and pleasant place to be,” he explained.
