How to get a free coffee from Dunkin' for National Coffee Day and other ways to celebrate
Rhode Island is big on coffee.
We'll take it hot. We prefer it iced. And we're committed enough that we've made coffee milk, which is really only a Rhode Island thing, our state beverage.
Heck, Providence was even ranked one of the best coffee cities in America.
Bottom line, we like coffee. So, National Coffee Day on Friday, Sept. 29, and the subsequent International Coffee Day on Sunday, Oct. 1 seem like as good of an excuse as any to "celebrate" with a cup, whether it's from the reliable Dunkin' that's in all but four towns or your local favorite coffee shop.
Here's a taste of how you could celebrate National Coffee Day this year.
Dunkin' has free coffee on National Coffee Day
Dunkin’ Rewards members can get a free medium iced or hot coffee with any purchase Friday. In a Taylor Swift style move, you can also get one of four new coffee lovers' bracelets Dunkin' has partnered with the Little Words Project on starting at 8 a.m. ET on Friday for $30 each on the Little Words Project website. There are limited quantities of the bracelets, which come with the sayings: “Iced Coffee,” “Eat The Donut,” “Get Sip Done” and “Cafecito Time.”
Some Taylor Swift fans are wondering if the bracelets are a nod to a future collab between the pop star and Dunkin'.
Get a free coffee from Aroma Joe's
Dunkin isn't the only chain offering freebies. Aroma Joe's, which has a shop in Providence, is offering a free iced or hot 16 oz coffee on Friday, Sept. 26. If you're a rewards member, the deal gets a big bigger. Rewards members can claim a drink up to 24 oz in size and can claim their one free drink between Sept. 29 and Oct. 6, if they want to skip the coffee day rush.
Visit your favorite coffee shop for a cup
Fun fact: One study found that Providence has one coffee shop for every four square miles. While that definitely included some Dunkin's there are a lot of great coffee shops in the Creative Capital to get a cup of joe at.

New Harvest Coffee, which also has a cafe out of the Farm Fresh RI building in Providence, offers single origins, blends and decaf. The Coffee Exchange, which again has a Providence cafe, is always roasting small-batch, sustainable coffees that will elevate your daily caffeine fix.
