MARLBOROUGH, MA — A state-sponsored free coronavirus testing site in Marlborough that was supposed to close on Friday will remain open through the winter, officials confirmed on Thursday.

The Stop the Spread testing site run by Marlborough Hospital has been offering drive-up testing at the New England Sports Center, 121 Donald Lynch Boulevard, since the fall. The site will stay open until March 31, a hospital spokesperson said.

In mid-December, Marlborough lost a testing site run by AIDS Project Worcester. Meanwhile, the Marlborough Hospital site was set to close on Jan. 15, although officials did say they were in talks to keep it open longer.

As of Thursday, Stop the Spread sites in Marlborough, Worcester or Framingham were the only ones serving MetroWest and eastern Worcester County. Framingham previously had two sites, but those were consolidated into one Stop the Spread site in early December.

The New England Sports Center site in Marlborough is open generally 8 a.m. to noon weekdays, but closures due to inclement weather are possible.
