How to get free COVID-19 tests that start shipping the week of Oct. 2

The federal government is offering four free COVID-19 tests per household in hopes of limiting the spread of the virus this winter.
The federal government is offering four free COVID-19 tests per household in hopes of limiting the spread of the virus this winter.

The federal government is again offering free COVID-19 rapid tests that are being mailed directly to residences in hopes of limiting the spread of the virus during the winter months.

The U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends testing if if you have any COVID-19-like symptoms, such as sore throat, runny nose, fever, or loss of smell or taste. If you test positive, isolation from others for at least five days and wearing a mask if you must be around others is recommended. To order the four at-home tests, go to the website COVIDtests.gov and fill in your contact information and shipping address. The tests also can be ordered from a Spanish website at covid.gov/es/tests.

Those unable to place an order online can call 1-800-232-0233.

Only one order can be made per address.

The orders will begin ship ping the week of Oct. 2, according to the U.S. Postal Service.
