MUNCIE — The Boys & Girls Clubs of Muncie has partnered with Chameleon College of Beauty Culture to provide free haircuts for club members at Chameleon’s College of Beauty Culture at 3450 N. Broadway. Boys & Girls Clubs non-members can get haircuts for $3.

The Club Cuts program is open to the public for any child who needs a haircut, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. the third Saturday of every month through May 21, according to a release.

Krista Sides, owner of Chameleon College of Beauty Culture, said in a release, “Community partnerships are a big part of our mission for Chameleon College of Beauty Culture. I’m so excited to have the opportunity to use our resources and education to help empower youth with the Boys & Girls Club.”

Families will have the opportunity to learn more about the programs and services that Chameleon College of Beauty Culture offers as well as the after-school programs that the Boys & Girls Clubs of Muncie provide.

Free symposium, training to address substance abuse issues

MUNCIE — The Addictions Coalition of Delaware County will have the third annual Delaware County Symposium on Substance Use Disorders 9 a.m.-5 p.m. March 15 at Ball State University’s Student Center.

The event is provided free of cost thanks to the support of IU Health and Urban Light Church and associated grant funders, according to a release.

The morning session will include several talks establishing a foundation on addiction as a disease, as well as the state of substance use disorders in Delaware County. It will be followed by a moderated discussion on the role of faith in addressing substance use crises and local services available.

A resource fair on recovery- and treatment-related services will be provided concurrently with lunch during the noon hour.

The afternoon session will highlight a personal story of addiction and recovery and a keynote talk. Finally, local experts in addiction, health, and behavioral health services will guide a town hall panel discussion about coordinated response to crisis intervention in Delaware County.

Panelists for the event, moderated by Pastor Andrew Draper, include: Chris Deegan, deputy chief, Muncie Police Department; Delaware County commissioner James King; Lisa Suttle, regional vice president of clinical services, Meridian Health Services; Muncie Deputy Mayor Richard Ivy; Jeff Hansard, chief probation officer, Delaware County; Paula Tyler, IU Health Service Line leader, and Zach Craig, chief deputy prosecuting attorney, Delaware County.

The focus of the event will be local opportunities for crisis intervention. A training component, offered through Mental Health First Aid, will be offered on March 16. The event and training are free of cost.
