Free holiday event: Meet the Characters of Christmas at Shady Lane Alpaca Farm Dec. 9

Sluss Realty will present the first ever Meet the Characters of Christmas 11 a.m. -2 p.m. Saturday at Shady Lane Alpaca Farm, 3073 Gass Road, Mansfield.

The event is free to the public and includes 11 Christmas Character Meet and Greets with Santa, Christmas Mickey and Minnie, Christmas Minion, Buddy the Elf, Jovi, the Abominable Snowman, Frosty the Snowman, the Elf on the Shelf and Ana and Elsa, according to Jami Kinton-Sluss, marketing director of Sluss Realty.

The event will include alpaca in reindeer ears just waiting for the perfect photo ops, a petting zoo with free food for kids to feed the animals with, free pony rides, free cookies and hot chocolate, kids activities, Christmas gifts, vendors and more.

Shady Lane Alpaca Farm will provide the perfect backdrop with indoor barn areas for warming up, several outdoor heaters, sided tents and more.

"We wanted to give kids and families a really special and unique event right before the holidays," said Sluss Realty's Kinton-Sluss. "It was also really important to make everything free. This event is for the entire community and we didn't want anyone to not be able enjoy it all. We know it's going to be a blast."

The YWCA, It Takes Heart Ohio, The United Way of Richland County and Pinnacle Wealth Planning Services and Shady Lane Alpacas all helped to sponsor the event.

"Pinnacle actually used to put on an amazing Christmas carnival every year and since they're not doing it this year, they've graciously lended their talents and monetary efforts to help make our event even more special," Kinton-Sluss said. "We'll have free carnival games for kids to play and they'll get snowflake tokens for playing that they can then trade in for some incredible prizes. It's truly going to be an amazing event. "
