Free at-home COVID test kits available for order again through USPS. Here's how to get yours

The federal government relaunched its program to send households free COVID-19 testing kits Thursday.

Each household can place one order for four free at-home COVID-19 test kits through the U.S. Postal Service. The orders will begin to ship out next week.

To place your household's order, visit: special.usps.com/testkits.

The government program to ship out free COVID-19 tests was put on hold in September. It was relaunched as part of the Biden administration's winter preparedness plan for COVID-19, which also includes a push for more Americans to get updated COVID-19 booster shots.

The program's revival comes as COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations have begun to rise again nationally, including in Oklahoma. Adding to strain on the health care system is an early, rough flu season and a surge this fall in cases respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV.

More options for at-home COVID tests

Need more than four at-home COVID tests?

Insurance companies have to cover eight at-home COVID-19 tests per person on the plan per month, either through reimbursement or by offering it at no cost through direct coverage.

Some pharmacies and other retailers will allow customers to request free at-home COVID-19 tests directly, then check eligibility on the customer's behalf. Walgreens and CVS offer a way for people to request the tests online.

Your insurance provider may also have more information about requesting free at-home tests.
