Free ice skating on MLK Day at Worcester Common Oval rink

WORCESTER — Outdoor public ice skating on the city Common Oval will be held free of charge Monday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Oval ice rink presenting sponsor Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts is offering the free skate and admission from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Ice skate rentals will also be provided free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis.

In addition, free skating lessons and learn-to-skate assist devices will be available throughout the day, as well as a limited number of parking spaces at no charge inside the municipal parking garage located under City Hall.

The 12,000-square-foot rink, which is 4,000 square feet larger than the size of the rink at Rockefeller Center in New York City, features piped-in music and an assortment of concessions.
