Free KN95 masks are being made available at multiple St. Clair County locations for individuals looking to mitigate the impact of air quality from Canadian wildfire smoke.

According to a news release, that includes the St. Clair County Health Department, 3415 28th St., in Port Huron Township, as well as all branch locations of the St. Clair County Library System, which include:

  • Algonac, 2011 St. Clair River Drive

  • Burtchville, 7093 Second St.

  • Capac, 111 N. Main St.

  • Ira Township, 7013 Meldrum Road

  • Kimball, 1955 N. Allen Road

  • Marine City, 300 S. Parker St.

  • Marysville, 1175 Delaware Ave.

  • Memphis, 34830 Potter St.

  • Port Huron, 210 McMorran Blvd.

  • St. Clair, 310 S. Second St.

  • Yale, 2 Jones St.

The masks can be picked up during regular business hours while supplies last.

“When air quality fluctuates between unhealthy and very unhealthy levels, it’s important to protect yourself, especially sensitive groups such as those with lung and heart conditions, asthma, COPD, children, pregnant women, and adults over age 65,” Liz King, the county’s health officer, said in a statement Friday. “During unhealthy levels, helpful actions include staying indoors as much as possible, reducing strenuous activities, and keeping outdoor activities short. For those who have to be outside, recommendations include taking more breaks and …wearing an N95 or KN95 mask.”

To learn more on health and air quality issues, there is a Michigan Department of Health and Human Services hotline at (800) 648-6942 that can be reached from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.
