The Humane Society of Greater Dayton invited residents to bring their furry friends to the event, Chippin’ in the USA, a spokesperson for the organization stated.

The event was to take place at the Humane Society of Greater Dayton location in the 1600 block of Nicholas Road on Wednesday, June 28 to Friday, June 30. The location was scheduled to remain open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Residents were encouraged to participate in the event because of the benefits that microchipping could provide.

“Microchipping your pet is a simple and effective way to protect them in case they ever get lost,” the spokesperson said.

Anyone bringing their pet to get microchipped could expect to receive the implant for free until supplies lasted.

Once free microchips were no longer available, the organization would still offer the service at a discounted rate of $15 per pet.

During this period, Humane Society of Greater Dayton also offered to scan previously microchipped pets for free. Scanning microchips could help people retrieve its number and allow them to update their pet’s information online, ensuring their records were up-to-date.

“The Fourth of July is notorious for pets getting lost, and by taking this proactive step, you are increasing the chances of a quick and successful reunion should your furry friend go missing,” the spokesperson informed.
