The city of Kent has announced free two-hour parking at downtown meters because of large snow piles that make it hard for motorists to access them.

The city announced the move on social media on Wednesday, stating, "Mayor (Jerry) Fiala has issued a meter holiday while the snow piles are making it unsafe to reach the meters. Be careful out there!"

"No need to climb mountains," states an image announcing the move. The image was accompanied by a photo of a meter, with a large pile of snow surrounding the meter.

The free parking is limited to two hours. Vehicles that remain in place for longer than that may be ticketed.

Two-hour parking is free downtown during meter holiday.
