The wait is over. It finally happened. The Detroit Lions won its first game this season. For putting one in the win column, Lions and pizza fans are in for a tasty treat.

Shield's Restaurant and Pizzerias in Troy, Southfield, and Detroit are making good on its promise for a free pizza when the Lions win their first game.

That win happened Sunday in the final seconds of the Lions game against the Minnesota Vikings. The Lions scored a touchdown and the final score was Detroit Lions 29, Minnesota Vikings 27.

More: Shield's Pizzeria will dish free pizza to customers if the Detroit Lions win a game

On Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. Shield's will give away a free small pizza with one topping on to celebrate the Lions first win. Groups of three or more will get one large with one topping. You can order extra toppings for an additional cost at the regular price according to a news release. The offer will be for dine-in-only customers without previous reservations.

“The team has had some tough breaks this season and we’re glad to see them pull out a victory, especially at home and against Minnesota,” Paul Andoni of Shield’s said in a news release. “We’re glad to show our loyalty by giving away free pizza to celebrate their first win. Maybe this is the start of a new trend for the team!”

It was back in October after the Lions lost in overtime against the Green Bay Packers that Shield's made the offer. They hadn't won a game since but tied the Pittsburg Steelers.

Shield's is celebrating 75 years in business this year and serves Detroit-style pizza.

The free pizza offer is at these Shield’s locations:

  • 5057 Woodward Avenue, Detroit

  • 25101 Telegraph, Southfield

  • 1476 W. Maple, Troy
